I. Background

1) Contest Background.

In October 2014, the magazine–“Asia Pacific Humanities” (APH) run the “Asia-Pacific Chinese International Photography Contest ” as a supporting activity for the Young Leadership Campaign in 2014. Considering COVID-19, APH run the first round of the “Asia Pacific Youth International Photography Contest and Exhibition” as an alternative activity for Youth Leadership Campaign in 2021. The first round “Asia-Pacific Youth International Photography Contest and Exhibition” provides a source of vitality for the development of photography in the Asia Pacific region and the rest of the world as well. 

Committed to building a world-class youth photography submission platform, with the concept of youth, nature, diversity and innovation. As the first competition, with the support of all sectors of society, the competition was successfully held.

The first-round contest has received strong support from young photographers, with 2,945 contributors and more than 18,000 works participating in the contest. This photography competition is judged by internationally well-known photographers according to the relevant regulations of the international photography competition. The secretariat takes the average of the scores of the judges to obtain a list of winners (in no particular order), and the result was publicized on www.acwacoop.org

The second round “Asia Pacific Youth International Photography Contest and Exhibition” is organized by Asia Pacific Humanities, co-organized by Australia-China Financial Elite Alliance, and undertaken by ACWA Media & Event, which strives to create a world-class platform for youth photography submissions, emphasizing youth, nature, diversity, and innovation. As the most frequently seen flower in Australia, Jacaranda symbolizes countless beautiful moments in Australian life. The theme of this year’s contest is the Jacaranda and university campus, and we hope to receive support from all walks of life for the competition’s success. The second round Asia Pacific Youth International Photography Contest and Exhibition will be held in December 2022, and the call for entries is open from now until October 25, 2022.

2) Theme track:

Professional group:

(1) Photojournalism: Photojournalistic entries are images with informative content and emotional impact reflecting the human presence in our world. An image’s news (storytelling) value should precede the picture’s quality. Images that distort facts, such as images of events or activities arranged specifically for photography, or photos of subjects directed or hired for photography, do not qualify

(2) Humanistic portraits; portraits of people as the object of photography, the language of photography to express people’s photography works

(3) Natural scenery: Themes that depict many aspects of nature – plant and animal life, natural features of land and sea, or natural phenomena.

(4) Architecture: photography works with architecture as the object, using the language of photography to express the beauty of ancient and modern architectural styles.

Professional group photography equipment: using professional photography equipment such as Single Len Rdflx and Mirrorless Interchangeable-lens Cameras.

Amateur group track:

  • Short Video Category: Themed on the university campus under the epidemic, discussing the changes in the university campus life since the outbreak
  • Life category: the theme of college campus life, reflecting thoughts on college campus life through photos
  • Creative Category: Photographs reflecting the changes in fiscal inflation in Australia
  • Aerial photography demonstrates the life, study, and entertainment of university students in Australia.

3) Selection Process

Professional Team:

The secretariat will conduct the first round of screening in each track to select the top 30 entries to be submitted to the jury through expert selection, and the top 15 will be chosen and awarded with the corresponding prizes. The final top 15 winning entries will be exhibited offline in Australia, along with the works of the invited photographic artists.

Amateur Team:

The secretariat will conduct the first round of screening in each track to screen the works of the top 30 participants. Participants who pass the preliminary screening will upload their jobs through the webpage, and at the same time, they can click on the sharing page to invite their friends to vote in the website area, or they can share it with their circle of friends to invite their friends to vote for them. The top 15 contestants with the highest number of votes will be awarded the corresponding prizes according to the number of votes they receive.

4) Submission requirements.

A. Format: JPEG, file extension .jpg both case and size are allowed.

B. Size: no more than 1920 pixels wide and 1080 pixels high.

C. Size: no more than 2MB.

D. Chinese work name: no more than 15 Chinese characters (including spaces), no punctuation or special symbols allowed, e.g. ” ” : . ! @ # $ % ^ & * ( ) { } | + : < > ? .” ” .

E. English Name: The English name of the entry is added to the competition to facilitate the PSA to include the results, the length of the English name should not exceed 35 characters (no special characters can be used, such as: ” ” : . ! @ # $ % ^ & * ( ) { } | + : < > ? .” “, except spaces) and all capitalization.

F. The picture of the work shall not be loaded with any kind of border or contain watermark or text such as the name of the participant, identity information, photo title, picture description, etc.

G. Participants must have a unique name for each entry, and the names of the entries cannot be the same.

5) Entries and entry requirements

  1. This call for submissions is open now until October 25, 2022.
  2. The contest is open to young photographers, and professional photographers, of any nationality, color, language, etc., worldwide. (The term “youth” here is defined by the United Nations World Health Organization as 18-65 years of age.)
  3. Works in black and white or color are allowed, and the same contributor may submit different categories, but the same work may not be repeatedly submitted to different categories. There are no restrictions on the filming equipment used (except for aerial photography), and there is no time limit for creation.
  4. The competition charges a certain fee for participation. (Professional group charges each person AUD10 for registration and judging fee, amateur group does not charge the registration fee)
  5. Each work should be accompanied by a work description (including the name of the work, location, time, event, creative intent, etc.), limited to 100 words.
  6. Creation of images: Entries in the professional category must be photographs (images of objects captured through photosensitivity) acquired by the entrant in a traditional photographic latex or digital way
  7. Amateur video track submissions within 15 seconds – 3 minutes in length

Other

1. Sanctions: Entries from any entrant currently subject to PSA sanctions will not be accepted. If an entry is found, the entries will not be judged and entry fees will not be refunded.

2. To meet PSA Association certification standards, entrants must provide the same name and country/region. Aliases are not allowed. If an entrant changes their name or moves to another country/region, please contact PSA.  Using a different name for a different show or event may prevent the PSA  Star system may not recognize the entrant’s entry results, putting the entrant at risk of not being able to successfully earn points.  The risk is that the entrant will not be able to earn points.

3. Ownership confirmation.

Entrants should have independent and complete copyrights of their works; they should also ensure that their submitted works do not infringe any rights of third parties, including but not limited to the copyright, portrait rights, reputation rights, privacy rights, etc.

4. The exhibited works and the author’s introduction will have the opportunity to be published in the special issue of Asia-Pacific Humanities at the Asia-Pacific Youth International Photography Contest.

5. Winners will have the opportunity to be invited to the opening event of the Asia Pacific Youth International Photography Contest and Exhibition, and to participate in lectures, workshops, and media encounters.

6. The best winners will be invited to participate in a series of follow-up activities and other related businesses as our special guest photographers.

*Anyone who submits an entry will be deemed to have accepted the agreement and terms and conditions related to this event, subject to the time the entry is sent to the email address, and will not be returned. The organizer has the absolute right to use the winning works in the activities related to this contest without paying any additional remuneration. Any legal responsibility caused by the participant’s violation of the above terms and conditions shall be borne by the participant himself/herself and not by the organizer.

Outstanding Organization Award:

According to the actual situation, such as the number of organizations (or individuals) recommended, the number of submissions, and the number of winners, the organizing committee will select several excellent guidance units and award the “Asia-Pacific Youth International Photography Contest Outstanding Organizational Contribution Award.”

Photography organizations, institutions, media, and websites from around the world are welcome to send in their contributions as a group.
